NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2008

It is that time of year again and the 25th  annual “National Night Out” has been scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, October 7th, 2008.  This unique crime prevention event is being sponsored by the Bellaire Police Department and will be held from approximately 6 pm to 10pm.  Neighborhood groups are organizing “block party” style events ranging from back yard barbecues to watermelon gatherings.

Our community has proven National Night Out to be a fun, effective way for the citizens to promote neighborhood spirit and bolster Police and Community partnerships to continue our effort to keep the neighborhoods safe.  The benefits of “getting to know” your neighbors extends far beyond the fun and camaraderie on October 7th.  When neighbors know each other, they instinctively tend to keep an eye out for each other and notify the Police when something just doesn’t look right.

As always Officers from the Bellaire Police Department will be visiting each “block party” to answer citizens questions and continue the positive partnership between our citizens and the Officers that protect them.  This year our theme is ‘Burglary Prevention’.  Officers will be meeting with citizens and answering questions about how we can continue to work together to keep crime out of our Community.

Neighborhood safety is top priority at the Bellaire Police Department.  The Police Department and the citizens work together as a team to keep Bellaire the wonderful place it is.   I would like to personally thank all of the local residents who are involved in this worthwhile program.  These motivated citizens are a large part of the reason Bellaire is such a great place to live and work.

Any resident who is interested in hosting an event can contact the Community Resource Officer Tim Quimby at the Bellaire Police Department (713)662-8103 or by E-Mail at tquimby@bellairepolice.com.  We welcome any citizen who wishes to participate. All you need to do is decide when and where you will have your event, then contact Officer Quimby and register.  He will send you flyers to pass out to your neighbors and assign Officers to attend.  So contact us and register your block today!
